Ingrid Jamieson

Ingrid Jamieson

I am a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor, trained and accredited by the awarding body CPCAB. I practise an integrative approach which means I use a combination of theories to suit my client needs. I am a Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work within their ethical guidelines.  I am registered with the Counselling Directory

I have worked in both the Private and Public Sector in the South East of England for 30 years before moving to Cornwall to start a new and exciting chapter in my life. Originally from the West Coast of Scotland I have been drawn back to the sea.

I have run my own busy Counselling Practice in Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire seeing clients for a range of issues for both short and long term therapy. These Clients have found me through recommendation, skills requirements and referral from the busy local GP Surgery at South Street.

My Public Sector work has been as an Employee of Essex Police where my role included the Welfare of Staff, Mentoring, Training, Incident Debriefing and Advanced Trauma Risk Management Practitioner. In addition to my work with officers and Police staff, I have been privileged to have the humbling experience of dealing with bereaved families following the sudden and tragic loss of loved ones through road death. This particular role has taught me to embrace the present and value the future.

I have played an active role in training new TRiM Practitioners and providing update training for current staff in the effective use of Trauma Risk Management, a process which allows Officers and Staff to talk through their experience of an incident with a view to normalising their responses and signposting them for additional help if so required.

My Clients have entrusted me with their thoughts and feelings, I do not take this for granted but instead continue to feel privileged to be allowed to hold them. My aim is always to be supportive and empathic but authentic. Being real with integrity is important to me.

The BACP guidelines set out the following principles and moral qualities that are fundamental to me and form me as a person.
  • Being Trustworthy
  • Autonomy
  • Beneficence
  • Non–maleficence
  • Justice
  • Empathy
  • Sincerity
  • Integrity
  • Resilience
  • Respect
  • Humility
  • Competence
  • Fairness
  • Wisdom
  • Courage

How can therapy help?

I am able to work with a wide range of issues in either short or long term therapy.
These include:
  • Anxiety
  • Bereavement and Loss
  • Couples Counselling – Tavistock
  • Depression
  • Health Problems
  • Life Changes
  • PTSD – Rewind
  • Relationship Difficulties

Since 2003 I have worked with those who have had sudden and traumatic events happen in their lives helping them make sense of their emotions and supporting them. I have additional training in Trauma Risk Management. A process developed and used by the Armed Forces now widely used in other sectors to identify those who may be at risk from Post Traumatic Stress PTSD.

What you bring to counselling is important to me because it is important to you. Confidentiality and a safe environment is our starting point.
